Sufian Abulohom

Sufian Abulohom is a 27-years-old independent Yemeni American filmmaker living in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in Sana’a, Yemen and moved to Falls Church, Virginia when he was 15 years old. He received his BA in Film and Media from American University 17’ and an MFA in Film and T.V Production at the University of Southern California 20’.

Sufian’s films have played in Oscar-Qualifying film festivals such as AFI Fest, HollyShorts, St. Louis International Film Festival, and been covered by The Hollywood Reporter and BBC Culture.

He was awarded Best Documentary Portrait Award (Short) for his film “Immigrant at Home” in 2020 and Best Animated Documentary (Short) for his film “Yemen: The Silent War” in 2019 by the Los Angeles Documentary Film Festival.

The documentary he produced “Breach of Trust”, had its online premiere at Short of the Week and was shortlisted for the BAFTA Student Awards.

Sufian is also an adjunct professor at American University.

Being one of few Yemeni filmmakers in the world, Sufian aspires to humanize and shed light on Muslim and Arab American stories.
